K-Prep Testing Kick Off
Congratulations to Alisabeth Culp and Katherine Oliver. The talented sisters entered the KET Young Writers Contest. Alisabeth placed 1st in her grade level and Katherine placed 2nd in her grade level.

Sound Hounds perform their last concert of the year. Thanks to the students and parents for your commitment to the program. RES is very proud of its talented Music Teacher and student singers.
4th, 5th and 6th grade students were honored for their hard work and success on last year's KCCT. 6th grade students visited classroom to help inspire younger students to their best and also offered test taking tips.

CONSERVATION POSTER CONTEST WINNERS
Congratulations to Joise Powers, who placed 1st for RES and 3rd place as the County Winner in the State Conservation Poster Contest. Congratulations also goes to Brenden Simons and Alisabeth Culp who placed 2nd and 3rd representing RES. Each student received a t-shirt, certificate and cash prizes. The 5th graders' hard work paid off as the school's Art Department received $125 for their participation.

MARCH MADNESS at RES!!
The Reidland High School Basketball and Cheerleading Teams came to RES to help kick off March Madness. The Boys' Basketball team challenged the RES Teachers to a game of basketball (of course the teachers won!) and the Cheerleaders entertained us with their award winning cheers. In addition to all this excitement, former student Jacob Matlock and MSU student came to share his Murray State Anthem.
America's Got Talent Youtube winner Matt Wilhelm Visits RES
As a reward for cookie dough sales, students at RES were treated to the tricks of BMX Biker and America's Got Talent Youtube winner, Matt Wilhelm. In addition to the bike tricks, Matt talked to students about the merits of hard work, never giving up, getting a good education and bike safety. The biggest crowd pleaser was when he jumped over three teachers (Mrs. Hunt, Mrs. Palmer & Mrs. Talbert) while riding his bike! Students who sold 7 or more items got an autographed picture of Matt.

Little Obie Train Visits RES
Students in grade K-4 got to ride the Little Obie Train as a part of a safety program teaching students about railway safety.

Red Cross Blood Drive

Mars Rover Competition

Robotics Demonstration
Members of the Paducah Police Departments Bomb Squad demonstrated to 5th graders the different aspects of the three robots used by the department. Paducah has one of 4 Bomb Squads in the state of Kentucky and often travels out of state to help neighboring state agencies.
After the demonstration students showed off their robots and got pointers from the officers as they prepared for the upcoming robotics competition that is apart of Project Lead the Way.
Story Book Character Day
In honor of Dr. Seuss' Birthday, students and staff dressed up as their favorite storybook character. The 5th grade students decorated hats about their favorite book. Students and staff competed in party games like Seuss Bingo, Pin the Egg on the Green Eggs and Ham, and a Character Parade. Congratulations to Kaylie Newbold, Adam Caldwell, and Katherine Oliver for their winning Storybook cakes. The talent was terrific!

Reidland area dentist Dr. Kelvin White talked to students about proper dental care. He even went so far as to tell students about the sugar and acid – yes acid that was in their favoirte soft drink.

RES Visited by Indy Race Car Driver Alex Lloyd
Students got a glimpse of what it would be like to be a Indy Race Car Driver from 2010 Rookie of the Year Alex Lloyd. He visited area schools to talk about how even in racing you need a good education. Lloyd was also commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America who sponsors Lloyd and his team.
RES Teacher s' First Ever Chicken Bowl Super Bowl
Competing Teams – The Hurricane's and The Tsunami's. Team captains – Marcie Jackson and April Bynum. Half Time entertainment provided by the teachers and staff under the direction of Sara Krimple. The best commercial was created by April Grigg's 3rd grade, "Why Attend RES!". No fowl was harmed during this year's Chicken Bowl.
JANUARY 2012
Anne Hancock and several 5th grade students presented "Hands on Equations" to the Board of Education last night. They represented us well.

5th grader Macy Carneal was selected as a finalist in the YAK contest sponsored by the Yeiser Art Center. Awards will be presented at the Teen Spirit Contest on January 15th.

DECEMBER 2011
Reidland Elementary came in second place in the Paducah Power School Challenge canned good drive, with 11 pounds per student. We had a total of 3,655 pounds. Over 22,000 pounds was collected from 10 area schools. The food will be distributed between Family Service Society, Paducah Cooperative Ministry and the Salvation Army.

OCTOBER/ NOVEMBER 2011

One student in each grade level got to ride the Reidland Farley Fire Truck to School! This opportunity was in conjunction with the school's Healthy Me Day sponsored by the Friends Center and Fire Safety week. The RFFD gave each classroom a Fire Safety kit. Inside were booklets and CD's for students to take home and discuss with their families Fire Safety and prevention. Students who completed the activities in the booklet and got a parent or guardian to sign the completion form were placed in the drawing.

SEPTEMBER 3, 2011
Students in grades 3rd through 5th learned about the life and times of world famous musician,
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart through an education series sponsored by the Paducah Symphony Orchestra. Students were involved in several aspects of the program. They learned not only about the life of the famous composer, but also the art, history and culture of the time period.
