Frequently Asked Questions

When will the school open?

McCracken County High School will open in the fall of 2013, bringing together students from Heath, Lone Oak and Reidland high schools.

How will the school be organized?

The school will be designed for and organized in small communities of learning. All 9th -12th grade students attending McCracken County High School will be assigned to one of five houses of approximately 380-390 students.

The small community of each house will provide a "home base" for students. A house principal, guidance counselor and a team of teachers will support students in each house.

Students will take most of their core academic classes (math, science, social studies and English) within the physical area of their house.  Elective courses will be spread out across the school building.  Students will leave their house to take elective courses with students from other houses within the school.

The small community design of the academic houses will provide students with the feeling of a small school, while offering the many academic, extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities made possible by bringing the three high schools together.

How will this impact the elementary and middle schools in McCracken County?

The consolidation of the district's three high schools will bring about some exciting changes in the fall of 2013. McCracken County Public Schools offers six elementary schools in three attendance zones: ConcordFarleyHeathHendron/Lone OakLone Oak and Reidland; as well as middle schools at HeathLone Oak and Reidland, and high schools at HeathLone Oak and Reidland. Students from the three high schools will come together in the fall of 2013 to form the new McCracken County High School. Heath, Lone Oak and Reidland middle schools will move to the former high school facilities and continue as 6-8 grade middle schools. The six elementary schools (Heath – Concord & Heath elementary schools, Lone Oak – Lone Oak & Hendron-Lone Oak elementary schools, and Reidland – Farley & Reidland elementary schools) will become kindergarten-3 grade schools in their current buildings. Students from each attendance zone (Concord and Heath, Lone Oak and Hendron Lone Oak, Farley and Reidland) will come together for 4-5 grade intermediate schools in the former middle school facilities of Heath, Lone Oak and Reidland.
