Goals of PTO

The main goal for the PTO board is to get parents involved.  Gradually over the years we have "lost contact" and grown apart from our parent body.  Rest assured that we are open to any suggestions or comments that you may have which will help in the area of bringing parents back and feeling a part of PTO.  Please feel free to send notes to school (teachers will put these in the PTO mailbox) at any time throughout the year as issues come up that concern you.

What does PTO do?

PTO has many functions.  First, PTO raises money through fundraisers (catalog sales, t-shirt sales, PTO membership dues, and fall festival) and uses the money in a variety of ways.  Here are a few examples of how this money is spent:

  • •Teachers or other staff such as janitors, cafeteria staff, secretaries, etc. within our school submit requests to use for funding of certain items in their classroom or job duties.  This could be computer programs, dictionaries, calculators, ink cartridges, DVD players, etc.  We hold monthly meetings and decide to honor or decline the requests.  Parents who are PTO members are encouraged to attend the PTO meetings to vote on these requests as well.
  • •We donate money to school programs such as Accelerated Reader, Box Tops, testing rewards, etc.
  • •We donate money to grade-level activities such as Barnyard Bash, Derby Day, Fairytale Ball, etc.

PTO does not require you to volunteer!  Being a member of PTO means you support your child and all of HLOE.  Being a member costs $5 per family and gives you the right to attend meeting which allow you to vote on issues and keep you up-to-date on the happenings of our school which involve the PTO.
